Seasonal Music

I can go through my catalog of music and pinpoint the season that each album reminds me of.  I love finding new music to listen to for a season.  I came across my new favorite album of the moment, Shields by Grizzly Bear.

I first heard of Grizzly Bear a few years back on a cd wedding favor that a friend made for their wedding.  The song was nice, but not enough to incline me to do research.  Fast forward about two years (which was three weeks ago) and you would have found me listening to Sirius XMU while painting my dining room.  I've skipped past this channel plenty of times thinking that it was an acoustic station, but I was happily surprised to find out that it's not!  It's in fact an indie rock station.  Loved it!  While listening, I heard a song called Sleeping Ute and it happened to be by Grizzly Bear.  I am in love with this song!  I have no idea what the meaning of it is, but it sounds great.

I found out that their new album, Shields, came out last week.  Yes, this is my autumn album.  I can already see myself driving down the highway looking at all of the changing leaves and mountains with a hot chocolate in my cup holder and blasting this album!

Do you find yourself looking for new music as the seasons change, and do certain albums just take you back?  Also, have you heard of Grizzly Bear and if so are you a fan?

Kimbra is great, but who is Sam Lawrence?

I want to start this post by saying to Simon, the love of my life...please do not feel threatened by this post.  In fact, you may want to just stop reading right now :)

I spoke of a new favorite artist of mine, Kimbra, a few weeks ago.  One song on her album is called Wandering Limbs.  It's a beautiful duet.  As an aside, I have never been one to listen to lyrics.  I'm all about the musical elements, harmony, melody, tempo, etc.  If I happen to really enjoy a songs production, then I start listening to the words.  This has come back to bite me in the butt a few times because I have fallen in love with the music in a song, then really listened to the lyrics and they sucked.  Such is life, eh?  This is all to say that I really don't know the lyrics to this song, but it sounds AMAZING.  (Please do not let the lyrics suck!)

I had to find out who the guy singing with her was.  He sounded like the lead singer from one of my favorite groups, Zero 7, but it wasn't him!  Well he is Sam Lawrence.

Hot!  He's from Melbourne and apparently a newbie in the music world.  So new that I could barely find any images of him to post here (boo!).  This is the best I could do.

During my search I came across this live version of Wandering Limbs.  Omg.  I don't know how many times I watched this yesterday (and not just because of Sam's looks).  I always say that live events/concerts are the best.  I would have loved to have seen this performance live.  So, Sam Lawrence?  Beautiful voice.  Nice body (from what I can see).  Passionate about his craft.  Yeah, he's a winner!

Check it out.

Kimbra

Hey guys!  I rarely talk about music on here, but music is a big part of my life.  The mood that I'm in determines what I listen to.  It could be the Yeah Yeah Yeah's one day and John Coltrane the next.

A few months back I saw 30 seconds of the beginning of a performance by Kimbra on one of those late night talk shows.  I loved what I heard but again, it was only 30 seconds.  This week I came across her again and listened to her album, Vows.  I have been jamming to this all week!  My favorite song is Settle Down.  Check out her album here.

I could see Kimbra as the little sister of Amy Winehouse and Christina Aguilera.  Not only her looks, but her voice is AMAZING!

Have you heard of her?  What do you think?
