A Spray Paint Fail

Hi guys!  I have been a little MIA due to the impending re-branding of my business.  Only a week and a half to go!

A couple of weekends ago I got a huge energy burst and ended up doing a few quickie craft projects.  One of them was the chalkboard wine glasses.  Another was spray painting a clock to go into my office.  It started out like this-

I've had this clock for well over eight years now, and I haven't used it in probably about five or six years since I never replaced the battery.  I figured a little spray paint in the soon to be colors of my office wouldn't hurt.

A few coats of gold spray paint and clear gloss spray paint later and it turned into this-

After it dried I studied it for a while.  I asked Simon what he thought of it.  He said that he didn't like the form of the clock in the first place (how does that saying go?  Putting lipstick on a pig?).  I thought about spraying it a different color, but in the end I trashed it.  Something just didn't feel or look right about it.  Oh well!  All of our crafty/DIY projects don't always come out looking great.  Have you worked on something lately that you had high hopes for and it turned into a flop?

Weekend Activities

Hey there!  I hope you had a great weekend.  Mine was pretty eventful.

On Friday night Simon lit a fire for the first time this season.

As we were enjoying the fire, something happened (if you follow me on twitter you may already know what I'm getting ready to say).  The lights on our Christmas tree went out.  Apparently you aren't supposed to link more than 3 lines of lights together (especially if the lights are over 10 years old).  I've done it plenty of times before with no issues.  Well, it was an issue.

See that shiny section of the plug where the O for Open is?  See those two holes next to that also?  Yeah, it melted.  Thank God nothing burned down.  We thought we were smelling the wood burning, but it was actually the plastic on the plug, eek!  It also happened to be the first strand of lights that we put on which meant...

You guessed it...

We took everything off of the tree including all lights, and decorated it AGAIN!  Decorating the same tree twice in one year is definitely something new.  I was kind of glad that all of this happened because I actually like the tree better now for some reason.  Possibly because the new strand that we added was brighter than the old one that blew.

On Saturday we had our family over for a festive celebration.  Festive celebration in my family means drinking, eating, listening to music and talking.  Oh yeah, and did I mention drinking (I made a slamming hot apple cider with spiced rum...delish!)?  I say this because a few of the following images are a little blurry.  Blame it on the alcohol, ha!

I'm a short tree hugger wearing striped Christmas socks.

Because we're crazy like that!

Me and my Dad!
It was COLD that night!  There was frost on the grass at 9:00.  I still took a picture of the lights that I put in the front bushes earlier that day.  You can also see our small tree in the window.

What about you guys?  Any fun happenings over the weekend?  Any melted plastic?  Any tree hugging?

Stay tuned, later on today I will be posting something for all of the foodies out there!

Do any of your walls look like this?

I'm not ashamed!  But come on...it's potentially shameful.  Probably the part about the walls being like this for over a year.

Bedroom wall when I was thinking of painting our room gray.  Who am I kidding?  I love gray and it will always be a contender.

Another bedroom wall

Bathroom fun

More bathroom fun

Thinking of painting the dining room plum.  Opted against, but this is still there.  I need to have this brown matched so that I can paint over it...before Thanksgiving.
But no fear mon frère (I've been saying this all week ever since I heard it on a video last week)!  We plan on starting to decorate our bedroom this month, so things will be changing soon.

Such is Life

Mirrors I tell ya. Can't live with 'em...couldn't get ready in the morning without 'em. So when I came across this beautiful mirror at my local Habitat Restore, I snatched it up quickly...especially because of the $24.99 price tag (down from $39.99).

I had the perfect spot for it, right above the buffet in the dining room. After all, the only thing that is hanging there now since the Christmas decor came down is a lonely hook which once held a wreath.
I loved the form of this mirror, and it was large enough to fit where I wanted it. I was debating on whether to spray paint it with the mirror look spray paint or to keep it simple, white. I decided on white, and after a few weeks of leisure decided to buy the paint. A few more weeks of leisure and I got started on my project.

This mirror was rather old, and I am funny about weird smells coming from old things. So I pulled out my handy-dandy bleach water mixture, some gloves and a sponge and got started cleaning the thing off. During the cleaning process I noticed this:

And this:

Um, what's that? Okay, well that must mean that something seeped into the essence of the mirror. The most logical thing to do is take it apart and spray more bleach/water to get rid of the something, right? So I began disassembling and cleaning...

Apparently that "something" was not as easy to remove as I thought. Unfortunately I had reached my capacity with this project, so I reassembled everything and got rid of it. Oh well, such is life! This only means to me that there is a better mirror out there somewhere. The good news is that I have a fresh bottle of white gloss spray paint, so who knows what may happen in the next few days!
